The mission of HES is to establish a partnership between home and school that maximizes students’ potential to succeed. We strive to provide engaging learning opportunities in a safe and caring environment, and to encourage partnerships between parents, staff, students, and community.

UNIQUE ATTRIBUTES
Discovery Program (Gifted)
Advanced Studies based on G.P.A. and norm-referenced test scores. At HES Discovery students are served in grades K-5.
Diversity
At Hawthorne Elementary, our school motto is “Celebrating the uniqueness and differences in all people”. We recognize the benefits of diversity and we bring a positive awareness to our individual, cultural, and ethnic differences in all that we do.
School-Wide Co-Taught Setting
HES population consists of special education students with a variety of exceptionalities. The majority of these students are included in the general education classroom for at least 80% of their instructional day. Our co-taught classrooms are staffed with a full-time general education and special education teacher. Additionally, a paraprofessional may be assigned as appropriate.
Technology
Hawthorne ES is equipped with 400 chromebooks, 80 surface 2 tablets, 10 Ipads, and 20 imacs. Hawthorne students have a 1 to 1 student to tablet ratio.
After-School Extended Day Program (ASEDP)
The ASED program provides dynamic after-school enrichment with a variety of programs (sports, hip hop, robotics and coding) and is designed to support and expand student interests.
Certified S.T.E.M. School
S.T.E.M.is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM Schools encourage students to think critically, solve complex problems, and drive advancements in science and technology. Students with STEM education will be at an advantage when competing for the high-tech, high-wage jobs of the future and in turn benefit the greater economy. HES received our AdvancED STEM Certification in 2017.This internationally recognized achievement is a mark of STEM distinction and excellence only offered to highly effective institutions that prioritize STEM education as a path to success.
